Swizz Beatz defends wife Alicia Keys’ Super Bowl performance with Usher: 'Nothing but amazing'
Her true Boo has spoken.
Swizz Beatz isn’t bothered by your memes about the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
The rapper-producer was one of many audience members who watched his wife, Alicia Keys, join Usher onstage for the game day performance. For reasons ranging from sweat-drenched abs to off-key notes, the 13-minute set left the internet in a tizzy. But if you ask Beatz, the negativity is entirely uncalled for.
“Y’all talking about the wrong damn thing,” Beatz wrote Sunday on Instagram, directing fans to focus on the positives — including Keys’ dazzling red catsuit. “Y’all don’t see that amazing dress covering the entire stadium.”
The epic performance saw Usher calling upon the talents of H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, and Ludacris, but Keys’ section of the night remains the most-talked about. When she first appeared at the glittering red piano in a matching gown, her voice cracked during the solo of her 2003 hit, "If I Ain't Got You.” She made it through to another viral moment, remaining onstage for a steamy duet of “My Boo” with Usher. The song culminated in the singers sharing an embrace, which prompted social media users to voice joking concern for their respective spouses.
But while fans speculated about Beatz’s response, he seems more than happy to celebrate the moment.
“Tonight’s performance was nothing but amazing with 2 amazing Giants,” he continued beside a slideshow of shots from the halftime show. “Congrats @usher and my love @aliciakeys that song is a classic 🤍 We don’t do negative vibes on this side we make history.”
Beatz and Keys have been married since 2010 and share two sons, while Usher recently tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Goicoechea, who he also shares two children with.
At least in Usher’s case, the mock-concern should come as no surprise given the halftime show began with Apple warning viewers that the performance may cause “singing, dancing, sweating, gyrating, and possible relationship issues.”
