A large fire has broken out near Sydney airport.

Authorities were called to a factory that had caught fire near the Qantas terminal.

Fire and Rescue New South Wales said more than 80 firefighters were on the scene, trying to contain the blaze.

The fire department later said: “FRNSW firefighters are using aerial appliances to battle the blaze in a large industrial building in Coward St, Mascot.

“A Sydney Airport fire crew is also assisting. @nswpolice and @NSWAmbulance in attendance. Neighbouring buildings are not under threat at present.”

It’s believed that the fire started in the ground floor of the factory.

Onlookers shared footage of the fire on social media.

At present, no flights in or out of Sydney airport have been affected by the fire, although a spokesperson told local media that there might be disruption.

“Two fire units from the airport have attended the scene to assist the NSW fire brigade,” the spokesperson told 7News.

“At this stage we are anticipating minimal disruptions and delays to arriving and departing aircraft as a result of the smoke.”
