What did you miss?
Sydnie Christmas had to be chased to accept her Britain’s Got Talent prize money.
The singer scooped the £250,000 jackpot when she won the ITV talent show at the beginning of June this year. But during an appearance on This Morning, it was revealed that it took show bosses some time to track her down and get her to pocket the money.
Laughing as she told the story to presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, Christmas explained that she had just got too busy as her “life took off” after she won the contest.
What, how and why?
Christmas was on the ITV programme on Friday (6 September) and host O’Leary said: “You are quite extraordinary in that they had to chase you to give you the money!”
The singer laughed as she replied: “I just thought, ‘Do you know what? What am I going to spend that money on?’ It’s in the best bank account where it was.”
She went on: “Life took off and it didn't stop. I was like, ‘Yes I will give you my bank details at some point, I’m so sorry.' And then doing that, doing this. Life just took me off. I am loving life so much.”
When she finally did take the prize money, Christmas said she had a “funny” moment. “I was Hoovering at the time,” she explained. “And I was like, screen shot, put it on the family chat, and I was like, ‘Look at that!’”
Elsewhere in the interview, Christmas was emotional as she looked back at clips of her performing on Britain’s Got Talent (BGT), as she told how she “still can’t get over it”.
“It’s a miracle really for me,” she said, becoming tearful. “I’m so, so happy.”
The star also told how things had been “non-stop” career-wise since her win.
“It’s been amazing,” she said. “I’ve been recording an album. I never thought that ever was in my life. You know, you think things are laid out for you and that wasn’t one of them… I’ve been in the studio and I’ve been creative and doing things that are my dream.”
Sydnie Christmas' tour plans
As well as working on her album, My Way, Christmas is preparing to tour. She hits the road next February, with stops including Glasgow, Sheffield, London and Birmingham. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster now.
Announcing the news on Instagram earlier this year, she said: “I’M GOING ON TOUR!!! I can’t believe I’m saying this (what is my life ASSSS IFFFFFF) but I am SO excited to announce I’m going on TOUR this October! I will be visiting many venues across the UK and I would LOVE to see you there!”
Christmas was originally due to start her tour in October but the dates were later changed to spring 2025.
Britain's Got Talent helped boost star’s self-esteem
Christmas previously told Yahoo how her Britain’s Got Talent experience boosted her confidence. She had been struggling trying to make it in the West End when she tried out for the show, and had been desperately waiting for her big break.
“My self-esteem in my talent was really crappy so the British public has helped me a lot,” she said. “Everyone that supported me, they've definitely made me start believing in myself and that's the most beautiful thing to say.”
