Sylvan Lake crash victim dies after truck hits guardrail

A 20-year old man from Sylvan Lake is dead after the truck he was driving left Highway 11 and hit a guardrail on Friday morning.

A 25-year-old female passenger is in serious condition in a Red Deer hospital.

RCMP said the vehicle rolled, landing upside down in a creek on the side of the highway between Sylvan Lake and Red Deer.

The two people were trapped inside the truck and were found by motorists driving by the crash. The bystanders pulled both from the truck and started first aid until paramedics arrived.

The man died at the scene. The woman remains in intensive care.

RCMP said alcohol and high speeds are likely factors in the collision.
