Syrian refugees supported by furniture drive
Syrian Canadians on Prince Edward Island are hoping to make life easier for the hundreds of refugees coming from their homeland.
While many of the 250 refugees expected on P.E.I. over the next few months will be mostly funded by government, about 100 are privately-sponsored family re-unifications.
The Syrian Association of P.E.I. is working to make their arrival a little easier with a furniture drive.
"I know families that have been living in Lebanon for the last four years. They had lost everything in Syria and they're struggling. Definitely there's no opportunity of work," said Bashir Mayaleh, president of the Syrian Association of P.E.I.
"They're living on the help from the monastery, help of the United Nations. So definitely it's an end for them, which I'm hoping is a happy ending."
