Taber corn hits stands around southern Alberta this weekend.

Seller Karen Easthope says people were waiting for her to arrive with her corn Friday morning in Calgary's northwest. She says it's an excellent year because of the heat,

"Corn loves heat, and we've got irrigation down there, so we have got lots of water and heat — perfect combination for growing corn," she said.

Easthope says they will be selling the corn through to the end of August and into September.

Taste test

In honour of the summer ritual of corn on the cob, CBC takes a look back at a taste test conducted by Homestretch host Doug Dirks a couple years ago — and the winner may surprise some.

SAIT chef Michael Allemeier was also on hand for the blind taste test between corn from Taber, Ontario and the U.S.

The test was held after reports of counterfeit Taber corn popping up in Edmonton in 2012.

Take a listen to the interview to find out the winner (Hint: it's Canadian, but not from Alberta).
