Taco Bell recalls 2.3 million pounds of beef and customers are reacting furiously
One beef taco but, hold the beef?
Costumers at Taco Bell locations nationwide were extremely confused on October 14 when they were told by several stores that the chain was experiencing a 'beef shortage.'
However, the strategic language left out what the real issue was -- beef products had been recalled in certain states due to health and contamination concerns.
The fast-food chan said in a statement released on October 15:
"On Friday, October 11, Taco Bell took immediate action and voluntarily recalled approximately 2.3 million pounds of seasoned beef from its restaurants and distribution centers."
The culprit? A customer in an undisclosed location found a metal shaving in a menu item made with the beef.
Taco Bell reported that menu item in question was produced "at one plant location on only one of the two lines used to make seasoned beef."
The product, though only produced at one factory, was sent to distribution centers in Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Virginia.
The supplier, Kenosha Beef International based out of Columbus, Ohio, has ceased production of the supply chain.
Taco Bell continued:
“As of 9 a.m. PDT, Monday, October 14, 2019, 100 percent of the affected restaurants in 21 states across the eastern Midwest, northern Southeast and Northeast regions impacted have confirmed product has been removed and discarded.”
Naturally, customers were confused, irritated and livid.
Many took to Twitter to express their frustration:
"Thoughts and prayers for Taco Bell to get more beef," Twitter user @GoBlueHail wrote.
"Y’all.....how does Taco Bell run out of beef?? I need some answers," wrote @RachNagy.
Another user, @notcooldanny, tweeted, "i don't understand how a f*cking taco bell can run out of beef 3 times a week."
Taco Bell reported that there had been no "confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption" as of Tuesday morning.
