‘You talk about extreme:’ Kamala Harris shows a better America removed from Trump | Opinion

This debate is all about personality. Not only do voters need to hear statistics about the country, they need to feel assured that the leader they choose to trust.

Vice President Kama Harris sensed the moment.

Harris envisions her presidency as an “opportunity economy” that will give everyone in our nation opportunities, from small business owners to middle class working families.

Kamala came to play. She knew the role she had to play and the one Trump will perform.

“I’m going to tell you on this debate tonight, you’re going to hear from the same old, tired playbook, a bunch of lies, grievances and name-calling,” Harris said on Tuesday.

Much like most of the night, Harris was right.

Trump is a chaotic and scheming wild coyote and Harris had to be the cunning road runner, evading his tired old tactics.

Trump has ran out of juice, save for his talk about violence.

“In Springfield (Ohio), they’re eating the dogs. The people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating — they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

One would expect Trump to stay from the regular filth that he spills during the campaign trail but he has stuck with his tired old playbook, referring to Harris’ “Marxist” father who was a college professor.

“She’s a Marxist. Everybody knows she’s a Marxist,” Trump said about Harris.

Trump went at Harris for literally everything. “Spends her time out on the beach,” the former president said. Really? This is coming from the guy who spray tans to keep his burnt orange complexion.

Trump was throwing all the haymakers he could, but they didn’t connect. But I was completely shocked by him accusing Democrats for his assassination attempt. “I probably took a bullet to the head because of the things,” he said on Tuesday. What things?

No matter the attack, Harris took on Trump, but more importantly, she gave us an idea of what we can become.

Americans must choose a better future

Before tonight I thought Harris’ job was just to not mess up. But Harris looked right into the cameras, serious and compassionate about the effect abortion bans have had on this country and delivered a message of concern and hope of change. She spoke honestly about how survivors of incest and rape, face struggles when they try to get healthcare.

When Trump would start his ignorant rants on the stage, Harris would give a smile while placing her chin on her hand.

I, for one, am tired of Trump. But exhaustion is not enough for voters to switch candidates. They need to see a leader that can bring them results. Harris presented that on Tuesday.

Trump is only good at division, using terms like “migrant crime.” His face on Tuesday showed a man angry and desperate to villainize Harris. He failed miserably.

“Let’s turn the page,” Harris said while talking to the American people. But we can only flip to the next chapter together.

This is not a reality TV show, this is a nation.

A country founded by the people, for the people.

Trump is selling a message of eaten animals and infanticide. Harris, one of hope, moderate policies and a united future. After this train wreck of a debate, only one message deserves our vote.
