Target Stores Will Be Closed On Thanksgiving Day This Year
Following the news that Walmart stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day this year, Target announced they were doing the same back in July. The company announced that stores will be closed on the holiday, which falls on November 26 this year.
Though the main event is typically Black Friday, Thanksgiving has become a sort of lead-in to the day, with people staying up late after their holiday meals to score the best deals early on. This year, as stores continually adjust their procedures in response to the ever-changing COVID-19 pandemic, it's looking more and more likely many holiday-time traditions will be altered for safety purposes.
As Target put it in a statement released on their website, their goal is to "make the holiday shopping experience simple, safe, and stress-free." At a time when gathering in large crowds—such as the ones that are the norm on big shopping days like Thanksgiving and Black Friday—is a high-risk activity, Target has decided to close down on the holiday but is making deals available earlier. Target hours on Black Friday have not yet been announced.
Holiday deals will be hitting stores starting in October, Target said, and will remain available through the holiday season. This way, guests don't need to flock to stores in groups on certain days and can space out their holiday shopping while still getting great deals. Target also plans to expand their contactless pick-up and delivery services for groceries and other items to 1,500 stores by the fall, so those who don't feel comfortable leaving their house to shop have an alternative option.
