Taxi stolen from Good Samaritan driver who stopped to help after crash
RCMP have charged a man who allegedly stole a taxi cab, after the driver stopped to help with a crash in High River, Alta.
On Friday at approximately 6 a.m., police responded to a two-vehicle collision on 498th Avenue East.
One of the drivers involved in the crash allegedly stole a taxi after the cab driver stopped to help, police said in a release Sunday.
RCMP said due to dense fog they weren't able to see what direction the suspect fled, but they were able to seize the vehicle the driver had abandoned. Police determined it had been stolen from Calgary.
They then tracked the stolen taxi using a GPS device the cab was equipped with. Officers located both the vehicle and suspect at a rural home.
Dustin Andrew Sklerek, 31, has been charged with theft of a vehicle, three counts of possession of stolen property, possession of break-in tools, obstructing a police officer and driving while disqualified.
Police are investigating what they describe as a large quantity of stolen goods that were transferred from the stolen vehicle to the cab.
