Taylor Swift has revealed that her mother Andrea Swift has been diagnosed with a brain tumour, a year after her breast cancer relapse.

In a new interview with Variety, the 30-year-old spoke about her mother undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. However, she also admitted that during her mother's treatment, she was given another devastating diagnosis.

‘While she was going through treatment, they found a brain tumour,’ the singer told the publication. ‘And the symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumour is nothing like what we've ever been through with her cancer before. So it's just been a really hard time for us as a family.’

Andrea’s health issues are one of the main reasons why the singer cut her upcoming Lover Tour short to just a few dates this year, including a headline slot at Glastonbury Festival.

‘I mean, we don't know what is going to happen,' the ‘Shake If Off’ singer explained of her decision. ‘We don't know what treatment we're going to choose. It just was the decision to make at the time, for right now, for what's going on.’

Discussing her relationship with her mother, the Cats singer – who is in a relationship with actor Joe Alwyn – described the 62-year-old as her ‘guiding force’.

‘Almost every decision I make, I talk to her about it first,’ she continued. ‘So obviously it was a really big deal to every speak about her illness.’

In 2015, the singer revealed on Tumblr that her mother had been battling breast cancer following a surprising diagnosis from her doctors.

‘For Christmas this year, I asked my mum that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine,’ the US star wrote.

‘She agreed, and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it. The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer.’

At the time, the Nashville-born singer said that she wanted to keep the details of her mother’s condition and treatment plans ‘private’.

However, in March 2019 the Grammy award winner told her fans that her mother’s cancer had returned and that she had relapsed.

‘My mum is now fighting her battle with it again,’ she wrote in her ‘30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30’ essay for ELLE.

‘It's taught me that there are real problems and then there's everything else. My mom's cancer is a real problem. I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. I give all of my worry, stress, and prayers to real problems now.’
