Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour Book’ just became the fastest-selling release of the year

The chairman of “The Tortured Poets Department” made her foray into book sales last week when she released her self-published “Eras Tour Book” on Black Friday.

Taylor Swift’s tour memento sold 814,000 copies in its first week of sales, making it the fastest-selling new release of 2024, according to Circana's BookScan, which tracks about 85% of print market sales.

The opening week numbers also make it the second-highest adult nonfiction release in BookScan history, according to Circana. Only Barack Obama’s memoir “A Promised Land” outsold it at 816,300 print units in its debut week in 2020.

And Swift had a successful debut week with just one retailer. While Obama’s memoir was distributed widely through various bookstores, “The Eras Tour Book” sold exclusively through Target.

Swift’s book is a 256-page hardcover with a sticker price of $39.99. It includes over 500 images, including exclusive performance photos from each “era” of music, rehearsal shots and reflective notes penned by the performer herself.

In the book, Swift explains why “Enchanted” is the only song she performs from her “Speak Now” album and why she begins each show with her “Lover” era. She brings readers behind the curtain at a Roomba-like platform that she uses to traverse the stage and the safety device that helps her dive into the stage.

Swifties divided over ‘The Eras Tour Book’

Across the country on Black Friday, Swifties lined up outside for hours in the dark outside of Target hoping to take home one of the coveted coffee table books. But not all were as “Enchanted” with the release. Fans found spelling errors riddled throughout the book. Some expressed disappointment at photos already seen on Swift’s social media. Some fans dubbed it “The Errors Tour Book.”

The book also prompted backlash after it bypassed traditional publishing and distributing, instead releasing under “Taylor Swift Publications.”

Swift wraps up her years-long “Eras Tour” on Dec. 8 in Vancouver. The tour kicked off in March 2023 in Glendale, Arizona.
