Taylor Swift fans believe she dropped hints about her next album on 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert'

Taylor Swift either dropped a lot of hints about which of her re-recorded albums will be next to drop when she appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Tuesday, or she was having a little fun at the expense of fans. Throughout her appearance, it seemed as though Colbert was just setting up Swift to, in very roundabout ways, reference her 2014 megahit album, 1989. Swift’s fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts, some going deep down the rabbit hole, dissecting nearly everything she said. But even to the casual Taylor Swift fan, some references were hard to ignore, especially when she told Colbert to “shake it off,” referring to his fake feeling that Swift’s song “Hey Stephen” from her 2008 album Fearless is about him. She also went way out of her way to mention New York City (the first song on 1989 is “Welcome to New York”), and Swift just flat out mentioned the album. Whether her fans are right or not, Swift definitely gave them plenty to think about.

TAYLOR SWIFT: The thing about that feeling that I think that maybe you should address within yourself, I think it's something that you should process. And then take the feeling that you're feeling--

STEPHEN COLBERT: Yes, my valid feeling.

TAYLOR SWIFT: --and just shake it off, right?

- Taylor Swift took a break from rerecording her old albums to make an appearance on "The Late Show" with Stephen Colbert Tuesday, where she seemingly dropped hints at what album may be coming next. At least, that's what her fans think she did.

TAYLOR SWIFT: Hey Stephen, it's not about you any more than my album 1989 is about that year you spent waiting tables on the lunch shift at [? Scuzzi ?] an Italian restaurant on the River North area of Chicago, that, by the way, serves a really incredible slice of pizza.

- [LAUGHS]

- Swifties immediately went to work connecting the dots. One fan Tweeted, not Taylor so casually mentioning 1989 and "Shake It Off" in a span of 1 minute. I can't do this. I'm about to lose it.

A lot of fans were about to lose it as Swift went to great lengths to reference 1989.

STEPHEN COLBERT: By the way, I've been meaning to thank you for sending me that signed CD.

TAYLOR SWIFT: Oh yeah, I signed it to you, Stephen with a p-h. I sent it to the Colbert Report, 513 West 54th Street, New York, New York.

STEPHEN COLBERT: And one fan believes Swift revealed the exact date that 1989 Taylor's version, or at least the new "Shake It Off" single will be released.

TAYLOR SWIFT: I've never revealed this before to anyone, but "Hey Stephen" is about Stephen King. The Dark Tower Series changed my life, plus "The Shining," "The Stand." And don't even get me started on his short stories. Absolutely luminescent.
