Taylor Swift had a tequila cocktail at Chiefs game. There’s a Travis Kelce connection

Talk about perfect product placement.

While she made headlines watching the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos Thursday night, Taylor Swift appeared on national TV with a canned cocktail in front of her.

Turns out it was Casa Azul Tequila Soda.

Turns out her new man friend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, invested in the company earlier this year before the Super Bowl.

“Not only do I know how to get wins on the board, I also like to make sure everyone is having a good time anywhere I go,” Kelce said in a press release announcing the partnership.

“To all the other hard seltzer brands out there, know your role and shut your mouth!” (Chiefs fans will recognize that as his “advice” to Cincinnati’s mayor when the Chiefs beat the Bengals for this year’s AFC Championship.)

The company launched in August 2022, setting itself apart from other canned drinks made with malt liquor by using real spirits — Casa Azul tequila from Jalisco, Mexico, sparkling water, agave nectar and natural fruit flavors. Each can contains 5% alcohol and 100 calories.

Kelce made an attractive investor for the company by helping introduce the drink to sports fans, company officials said.

Tequila seems to be a go-to spirit for Swift who, as Billboard once noted, “likes a good drink now and then.” That was part of the headline on a 2017 story about references to alcohol on her sixth studio album, “Reputation,” which started a trend of listing alcohol mentions in her songs.

People are paying closer attention to her beverage game now that she’s popping up on national broadcasts of Chiefs games. For instance, anonymous reports about the party she attended with Kelce, relatives and teammates after the Bears game in September said she was doing shots with Brittany Mahomes.

Images of the new “NFL besties” from “Thursday Night Football” at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium went viral.

When Swift and celebrity pals Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman went to MetLife Stadium to watch the Chiefs play the New York Jets, Whiskey Raiders website detailed what the stars were drinking.

“At the first game she attended against the Chicago Bears, Swift was seen sipping a red drink, thought to be a vodka cranberry,” the website wrote.

“At the Jets game, Swift was again spotted with a red drink. This time, however, we can confirm it wasn’t a vodka cran — or at the very least, not a plain-old one. Instead, Swift and her friends were drinking Blake Lively’s drinks brands, Betty Buzz and Betty Booze.”

Tequila makers must be thanking the blue agave gods that Swift’s attendance at Chiefs games have sparked a drinking game: Do a shot every time her face shows up on screen.

Bottoms up, America.
