Lip readers, assemble! At the 2024 VMAs, cameras caught Taylor Swift’s reaction to Video Vanguard Award winner Katy Perry’s acceptance speech, and her reaction to one specific line is especially intriguing.
In her speech, Perry, Swift’s friend turned nemesis turned friend again, thanked the LGBTQ+ community for teaching her that it was possible to be both “kind and c-nt.” Clapping throughout (if there’s one thing Swift’s gonna do at an awards show, it’s stand up and clap), Swift then turned to her longtime producer Jack Antonoff, having apparently overheard whatever he was saying to his other seatmate. He then pointed straight at her. Was Jack Antonoff calling Taylor Swift both “kind and c-nt”? Kinda looks like it. Check out the video here.
Swifties were on high alert looking for the superstar’s reactions to the evening’s events, perhaps hoping for a return of Drunk Taylor, who was one of the best parts of last year’s VMAs.
ICYMI, Drunk Taylor is the version of Taylor Swift who gets delightfully tipsy, sometimes to the point that her publicist, Tree Paine, says, “Drink some water.” The term was coined by Swift herself, who revealed that Drunk Taylor’s “game” is mojitos.
Drunk Taylor is also a dancer and a passionate sing-along-er, really enjoying Demi Lovato’s performance of “Cool for the Summer” at the 2023 VMAs.
This year, though, Swift kept things a little more demure. She wore two fantastic outfits over the course of the event, and during her acceptance speeches praised both her “Fortnight” collaborator Post Malone and her love life collaborator Travis Kelce.
“Something that I’ll always remember is that when I would finish a take, and I’d say cut, and we’d be done with that take, I would always just hear someone cheering and like, ‘Woo!’ from across the studio where we were shooting it,” Swift said. “And that one person was my boyfriend, Travis.” Sounds more kind than…anything else.
