Taylor Swift Puts a Punk Spin on ‘Clueless’ in a Yellow Plaid Corset Dress at the MTV VMAs
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s big weekend in New York City led to her night out at the MTV VMAs in Elmont, New York. Swift posed solo on the red carpet, as Kelce had to return to work.
Swift wore an yellow plaid corset dress on the red carpet with her blonde hair styled down. The look was a very punk take on Cher’s iconic plaid look from Clueless.
Swift has 12 nominations at this year’s show, including for Video of the Year. Should she win that award for her and Post Malone’s “Fortnight,” she would make history as the only artist to win it three years in a row. It would be her fifth time overall.
She is also up for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (“Fortnight”), Best Collaboration (“Fortnight”), Song of the Summer (“Fortnight”), VMAs Most Iconic Performance (“You Belong With Me”), and Best Pop Artist. Her video for “Fortnight” is nominated for Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction.
Last year at the MTV VMAs, Swift fan believed she might be announcing the release of Reputation (Taylor’s Version) with her Versace dress channeling that era’s aesthetic. She later revealed at this year’s Grammys that her album The Tortured Poets Department would be coming out on April 19.
Swift could very well make a new music announcement during tonight’s show. She has history using VMAs to do that, like back in 2022 when she shared news of her album Midnights.
Swift is currently on break from her Eras Tour. She finished her European leg on August 20 and will resume her U.S. shows on October 18 in Miami. A source told Us Weekly last week that Swift is still figuring out what she’ll focus on once her tour ends in December.
“She’s trying to make sure she has down time first and hasn’t fully made decisions about anything just yet,” the insider said, noting she was planning on using her break to spend “quite a bit of time in with Travis.”
