Taylor Swift Slams Donald Trump for Trying to ‘Destroy Our Right to Vote’

Taylor Swift has accused President Donald Trump of “dismantling” the U.S. Postal Service in an attempt to manipulate the 2020 presidential election this November.

In a series of tweets posted on Saturday, August 15, the 30-year-old pop star once again used her enormous platform for political activism, making one thing very clear: She’s onto Trump’s latest attempt to suppress votes by opposing USPS funding and linking the service to voter fraud.

“Trump’s calculated dismantling of USPS proves one thing clearly: He is WELL AWARE that we do not want him as our president,” she wrote. “He’s chosen to blatantly cheat and put millions of Americans’ lives at risk in an effort to hold on to power.”

The Folklore singer’s latest political statement didn’t end there. She also called Trump’s leadership “ineffective,” adding that “it gravely worsened the crisis that we are in.”

“He is now taking advantage of it to subvert and destroy our right to vote and vote safely,” Swift added. “Request a ballot early. Vote early.”

Swift’s latest tweets come after USPS warned nearly every state that it may not be able to deliver ballots in time, according to CNN, meaning that millions of votes could go uncounted.  Additionally, the president said he was blocking supplementary funding for the USPS to help with election issues because he opposed mail-in voting.

Taylor Swift has recently become more vocal about her political beliefs and disapproval of Trump. In 2019, she attacked the Trump administration for failing to acknowledge the petition for the Equality Act. In June 2020, she slammed Trump for tweeting that protesters in Minnesota should be shot, as well as called him out for “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism” his entire presidency.

This was not the first time Swift spoke in defense of mail-in voting. Back in June she spoke out about the coronavirus pandemic’s effect on our election, writing, “No one should have to choose between their health and having their voice heard.”
