Which team took over the No. 1 spot in the Carolinas Top 25 high school football poll?
For the first time since September, there is a new No. 1 in the Carolinas Top 25 poll.
Greensboro’s Grimsley High School (9-0) jumped past Providence Day (8-1) to take the top spot. Providence Day had a 13-game win streak snapped in a 42-27 loss to nationally ranked Rabun Gap (GA) on Friday.
The Chargers dropped to No. 2 in this week’s ranking of the top teams in North and South Carolina.
Grimsley (9-0) reached the N.C. 4A state championship game last season, and has been on tear in 2023. The Whirlies are averaging 50.2 points per game and allowing only nine. Senior receiver Alex Taylor, a UNC commit, is a finalist for Mr. Football, the statewide player of the year award.
▪ One new team joins this week’s poll. Westside (SC) High, from Anderson, is No. 25. Westside is 8-1 after Friday’s 63-35 win against Easley, the school’s eighth straight.
