Teen accused of killing man in Wake Forest is captured 500 miles away

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in New York state in the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Tyler Ray Wood this month, Wake Forest police said Wednesday.

Issac Mason was taken into custody Tuesday around 10 p.m., in Stony Brook, on Long Island, about 500 miles from the northern Wake County town.

He has been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, according to a Wake Forest news release.

Wood was found shot on East Wait Avenue on Aug. 17 and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Two days later, police said he had died and that they were now investigating his death as a homicide.

Mason is being held in Suffolk County on Long Island, pending extradition to North Carolina.

The Wake Forest Police Department worked with local, state and federal agencies in North Carolina and New York to find and capture Mason, the release stated.
