A 16-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder after a young man was stabbed to death on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation west of Calgary.

RCMP found the man suffering from serious injuries around 9:53 p.m. on June 2 and provided emergency care until EMS arrived.

"Efforts to resuscitate the 19-year-old male were unsuccessful and the male was pronounced deceased at the scene," RCMP said in a news release issued Monday.

An autopsy confirmed the death was the result of a homicide.

The victim has been identified as Nathaniel Jake Beaver from Stoney Nakoda.

A 16-year-old, also from the First Nation, was arrested Sunday for the homicide. The youth can not be identified under Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act.
