Teen killed while skiing at New Hampshire resort. ‘A devastating loss,’ family says

A 15-year-old Boston boy was killed in a skiing accident at a New Hampshire resort, news outlets reported.

Christopher DiPrima and his family were skiing at Pats Peak, located about 80 miles northwest of Boston, on Saturday, March 25, when the crash occurred, according to WMUR.

Following the accident, the resort’s ski patrol transported Christopher to the bottom of the slopes and he was taken to a hospital, according to the New Hampshire outlet.

He was later pronounced dead, according to the Boston Herald.

“This is a devastating loss,” Rita DiPrima Gingras, the teen’s aunt, wrote in a Facebook post. “He was 15 and an outstanding young man.”

“Christopher was a kind and caring person who brought joy to everyone he met,” Excel Academy Charter Schools, where he was a student, wrote in a statement. “He will be truly missed.”

The school added that it would provide counselors for students on its campuses following the tragic accident.

An investigation into the crash has been opened, according to WMUR.

“Our sympathies go out to his family during this difficult time,” Kris Blomback, general manager of Pats Peak, said in a statement provided to McClatchy News. “The staff of Pats Peak is saddened by the incident...and the investigation is ongoing.”

Christopher’s death comes less than one week after a Massachusetts resident died in a skiing accident on Wachusett Mountain, according to WJAR.

John Lapato, 67, was killed when he crashed into a tree on the mountain on March 20, according to the outlet.

An average of 38 people died while skiing or snowboarding in the United States each year between 2009-10 and 2018-19, according to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, citing reports from the National Ski Areas Association.
