Teenager airlifted, in critical condition after shooting on the MS Coast, police say

A teenager is in critical condition after a shooting early Monday in Gulfport, police said.

The Gulfport Police Department responded at 12:04 a.m. to Indiana Avenue and Jackson Street, according to a news release. A caller reported a person was not moving in a vehicle and was possibly shot, Lt. Jason DuCre said.

Officers found the teenager inside the car “suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” the release said.

Authorities brought the teenager to a local hospital. The victim was later airlifted to a hospital out-of-state, the news release said.

Police made no immediate arrests. DuCre said Monday morning that authorities are looking into leads.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
