Teenager dead after moose collision near Carmanville

A moose collision over the weekend has claimed the life of a 17-year-old.

Police say the young woman was a passenger in the vehicle when it hit a moose on Route 330, near Carmanville in central Newfoundland.

The teenager, who has not been identified, succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

Police said they were called to the crash scene around 10:30 p.m. and found the 17-year-old passenger in critical condition.

Police and paramedics tried to save her life with CPR, before she was sent to hospital in Gander, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police say the driver of the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The province's chief medical examiner's office is involved in the investigation, along with an analyst from the RCMP's traffic division.
