Tesco makes heartwarming gesture after grieving widow halved her delivery order
Tesco staff went above and beyond when they heard that one customer had cancelled half her order due to her husband’s death.
Linda Heald, 66, had ordered a big shop ready for her and husband David’s wedding anniversary, but phoned to cut it down when David suffered a fatal stroke the day before they could celebrate their 23rd anniversary.
But when delivery driver Liam Mellor turned up with the reduced shop, he also came bearing gifts.

Staff at the Savile Street Tesco, Sheffield, had put together a gift basket, including a condolence card, flowers, chocolate and wine, to let her know they were thinking of her during this difficult time.
Linda, from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, said, “It was really nice of Liam – he’s a nice young lad.
“He turned up with all these gifts and I didn’t even know his name – but it was just so kind of him. He even said if I needed anything to just get in touch with the store.”
Paying tribute to her husband, who passed away after a stroke, Linda said, “Everyone knew him – everyone said what a lovely bloke he was.”
Linda and David were due to visit David’s favourite place, the Canary Islands in February; Linda still plans to go.
