We Texans demand independence and justice, not Abbott and Paxton’s rank corruption | Opinion

Not the Texas spirit I believe in

As Texans, we pride ourselves on our independence, resilience and commitment to justice. But our state’s leaders have cast a shadow over these values.

Gov. Greg Abbott’s tendency to pick favorites is troubling. He seems more concerned with catering to special interests and political allies. By prioritizing certain industries and playing politics with issues such as voting rights and public health, Abbott undermines fair representation for all Texans.

Attorney General Ken Paxton’s conduct, from allegations of bribery and corruption to misuse of taxpayer resources, raises serious questions about his fitness to hold office. The role of the attorney general is to uphold the law and protect the rights of all Texans, not to serve as a personal enabler for those in power.

Texans have a proud tradition of standing up for what is right and holding our leaders accountable. We must come together to demand transparency, integrity and accountability.

The ways I believe Donald Trump

Many of us can’t stand Donald Trump personally. He is an arrogant blowhard used to getting his way. But rather than comparing him with a political opponent on a personal basis, we look at policy. This is why I like Trump:

He says he would close the southern border.

He says he would again cut taxes for all Americans, which has proved to raise revenue.

He says he would open up oil drilling to improve our economy and create an excess to sell to other countries.

He says he would continue to support Israel against its enemies, including novel ways to confront the growing antisemitism in our country.

His economic policies would allow young people to have their own homes.

He would clean up the mess in Washington. Weaponizing politics is wrong.

I pray for the policies that will make America great again. They are what’s important.

I see a threat is among us

How many terrorist organizations have established small armies here because they can seemingly walk across our borders with impunity? Anyone who denies this possibility is a fool. Do we not have immigration laws?

Qualifications mean nothing

The mainstream media has known about President Joe Biden’s deficiencies for four years. The presidential debate exposed the cover-up, and now, media and Democrats will do everything in their power to paint Vice President Kamala Harris as the only choice and Republicans and conservatives as a danger to democracy and the future of the U.S.

American voters are gullible enough to go along, even though Harris’ qualifications and accomplishments mean nothing to the average person.

Jobs that always have to be done

Soon, we will vote for a new president. Vote for Donald Trump, and you get a man who claims migrants are taking away our jobs. But migrants mow and cut weeds for public and private landscaping. They pick our crops. Immigrants do the grunt work on building projects and street repairs. Not enough Americans want these jobs.

That RNC speech sealed it for me

I have never voted for Donald Trump, though at one time I was a registered Republican. And the more he talked at the Republican National Convention, the more certain I became that I won’t vote for him this time. He’s a rabid narcissist, a convicted felon, a fraudulent businessman and a big-time liar who wants to be an authoritarian leader.

I’ll take Kamala Harris any day over Trump.
