Shoppers may want to stop by a liquor store while they are out picking up items for Thanksgiving this week.

There are certain days throughout the year when Texas liquor stores have to close up shop, per state law. Liquor stores are closed on Sundays and on certain holidays.

With Thanksgiving and Black Friday ahead, here’s what to know about liquor store hours this week:

Are liquor stores closed on Thanksgiving in Texas?

Yes, liquor stores in Texas are closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Along with the Thanksgiving, the other holidays that Texas liquor stores must close on are Christmas and New Year’s Day, according to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

Under Texas law, liquor stores may operate Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Are liquor stores closed on Black Friday?

Nope. Under Texas law, liquor stores do not have to close on Black Friday.

Despite having its own moniker, Black Friday is not a federal holiday. People may treat the day as a retail holiday when they can cash in on deals ahead of the Christmas season, but it isn’t a holiday the government recognizes.

The only time liquor stores must close under state law are on Sundays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
