Theft charge stayed against Yellowknife Legion employee

The Crown prosecutor has stayed a charge of theft against an employee of the Yellowknife Royal Canadian Legion.

Earlier this year the RCMP charged Mary Charles, 42, and Hellen Leaman, 49, with theft over $5,000. Police alleged the two had stolen alcohol and $60,000.

On Tuesday the Crown stayed the charge against Leaman. That means the prosecution is no longer pursuing the case at this time, but retains the right to resume proceedings within a one year time limit.

Charles is due back in court on April 28.
