Thi Yen Le killed in targeted attack in Stanley Park

Vancouver police have identified the woman killed in Stanley Park early Thursday morning as 33-year-old Thi Yen Le of Surrey.

Vancouver police spokesperson Const. Brian Montague says Le was known to police and they believe she was the victim of a targeted attack.

Le was found in medical distress by a caretaker near the Brockton Oval around 6 a.m. PT.

"Despite efforts to save the woman, she was pronounced dead at the scene," said a statement issued by police.

Police say the woman was not a jogger, and have not ruled out that her body may have been dumped there after she was attacked.

A large area around Brockton Oval and Stanley Park Drive was closed on Thursday morning while police investigated the scene.

The death is Vancouver's fifth homicide of the year.
