‘This Is Us’ Gives Tearful Goodbye to Beloved Character

Tuesday’s This Is Us took the scenic route in saying goodbye to Randall’s biological father, William. The two set out on a road trip to William’s hometown, Memphis. William literally threw out the directions and the two ambled along to his boyhood home.

Along the way, they found common ground, discussing their admiration for Randall’s adopted father, Jack. Randall described Jack calmly holding his face with both hands whenever Randall had a panic attack. They ate barbecue and relived William’s musician days with his estranged cousin.

Sadly, the fun was cut short, as William’s health took a turn for the worse. He was sent to the hospital, where the two had to say their final goodbyes. William gave Randall some advice, “Roll all your windows down, Randall. Crank up the music. Grow out that fro. Let someone else make your bed.”

As William succumbed to his disease, Randall comforted his father in the same way Jack did to him. We left Randall tearing up while driving home, turning up his music, and rolling his window down.

This Is Us airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. on NBC. Watch clips and full episodes of This Is Us for free on Yahoo View.
