Thoai Van Luc gets 8 years for Food in East shooting

Thoai Van Luc has been sentenced by a Calgary judge to eight years for his role in a gang-related shooting.

Tina Kong and Kevin Ses were gunned down and three others were injured at the Food in East restaurant in 2008.

Luc was originally charged with two counts of first-degree-murder, but pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter after making an arrangement with the Crown.

Two charges of attempted murder were dropped.

"Your degree of blameworthiness is quite high," said Justice David Gates.

Luc gets three years and three months credit for time served.

The killings were linked to a violent feud between two rival gangs — Fresh Off the Boat (FOB) and FOB Killers — that saw multiple deaths in Calgary since 2000.

Fellow gang member Nathan Zuccherato also pleaded guilty in the shooting, but has yet to be sentenced.
