Thomas Markle has criticised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for “insulting” the Queen.

On Tuesday, the 75-year-old was filmed leaving a shopping centre near his house in Rosarito, Mexico, when a reporter asked him if he believes Meghan and Prince Harry have “the right to use the word royal”.

“I'm very upset with Meghan and Harry right now,” Mr Markle replied after a brief pause.

“I don't think they have the right to use the word royal."

The outburst continued with Mr Markle accusing the couple of disrespecting the Queen and “dumping” their families.

“I don't think they have a right to speak to the Queen in the way they have spoken to her, I think it's an insult to the Queen and to the British people,” he said.

“My daughter dumped me one day before she got married, she has dumped my family, she has dumped Doria's family, she has dumped every family and now she is dumping the British family.”

The criticism comes just days after Meghan and Harry confirmed they will not be using the “Sussex Royal" brand after they officially step down as senior members of the royal family on 31 March.

The announcement marked a U-turn in the couple’s plans for their new charitable foundation and came just two months after they attempted to register the name as a trademark.

A Sussex spokesperson said: “While The Duke and Duchess are focused on plans to establish a new non-profit organisation, given the specific UK government rules surrounding use of the word ‘royal’, it has been therefore agreed that their non-profit organisation, when it is announced this spring, will not be named Sussex Royal Foundation.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘SussexRoyal’ in any territory post Spring 2020.

“Therefore the trademark applications that were filed as protective measures, acting on advice from and following the same model for The Royal Foundation, have been removed."

Mr Markle’s comments are the latest in a tirade of disapproval he has aimed at the royal couple.

In an interview with The Sun, Mr Markle went as far as to say he would testify against his daughter as part of the legal action she is taking against specific tabloid stories regarding their relationship.

“When me and Meghan end up in a courtroom together, it will be quite stunning for everybody,” he said.

“It will be emotional. I don’t know how we will both accept it,” he said, adding that “everything will come out” in court.
