Thousands of residents without power as Hurricane Helene storms through Manatee County

More than 72,000 Manatee County homes have been affected by power outages as Hurricane Helene churns through the Gulf of Mexico.

As of Thursday night, Florida Power and Light reported outages for over 43,000 customers as the powerful Category 4 storm continued to move north toward Florida’s Big Bend area.

In total, FPL said about 70,000 of its nearly 215,000 Manatee County customers have been impacted, with power restored to around almost 27,000 customers.

Manatee County’s other electricity provider, Peace River Electric Cooperative, reported over 2,300 power outages Thursday night.
