Three jailed after woman was shot during vehicle chase in southern Ky.

Three people have been charged with attempted murder after police say a woman was shot over what the suspects claimed was a stolen vehicle in Pulaski County.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office said emergency responders were called to James Meece Road at 1:28 a.m. Monday, where they found the injured woman, who had been shot in the shoulder area while she was a passenger in a vehicle, according to a news release. The man driving the vehicle was not shot, the sheriff’s office said.

The woman was taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and then transferred to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said one of the suspects, Asa Simpson, 49, of Somerset, told them his vehicle had been stolen, and another of the suspects, Christian Helton, 24, also of Somerset, had told him he knew where they would find it.

The men, along with the third suspect, Bralyn Greer, 20, of Hustonville, were driving to try to get the vehicle back when they saw it traveling on Ky. 192, according to the sheriff’s office.

“While attempting to get the vehicle to stop, one or more of the occupants of the suspect vehicle fired multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle,” the news release stated.

The shooting began near 192 Market and the Dollar General on Ky. 192, the sheriff’s office said.

Greer said the hatchback in which the suspects were traveling crashed into a ditch on Stewart Road, and when they couldn’t get it out of the ditch, they left on foot, according to a police uniform citation filed in Pulaski District Court.

Simpson, Helton and Greer were arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit murder. They were taken to the Pulaski County Detention Center, according to the news release.
