Special weather alerts, warnings end for southern Ontario
Environment Canada ended its special weather statements and severe thunderstorm alerts for southern Ontario on Friday evening, after having predicting severe weather for the region.
Some lightning, thunder and rain was reported around Toronto, but it did not amount to the downpour that was predicted for the city and the Hamilton region.
An earlier tornado warning for some regions including Barrie and Orillia was cancelled earlier in the evening. Those areas were then under a severe thunderstorm warning — with a risk of a tornado associated with the storm. Warnings ended for those regions Friday night.
Dark clouds and hail were reported across southern Ontario throughout the evening, though no tornadoes were reported by Environment Canada.
The storm was the result of a cold front moving east across the province and causing temperatures to drop.
The regions of Durham, Peel, York and Halton were also previously under severe thunderstorm watches.
