TikToker praises hotel staff over their response to his outlandish check-in request: ‘They deserve a raise!’

An Australian TikToker is going viral after sharing the hilarious way a hotel responded to his unconventional check-in request.

The hotel guest, named Tommy (@tommymodeactivated), posted the video in early September 2021. The video has since drawn nearly 9 million views and thousands of praiseworthy comments.

It’s just the latest viral video to show a heartwarming exchange between service workers and their customers. Earlier this month, an Amazon customer revealed the way a delivery driver discovered an “unsafe” detail outside her home. Before that, a woman posted the tear-jerking voicemail she got from the owner of her favorite food truck.

Tommy’s clip veered a little more on the silly side. His video opens with an email he sent to the hotel staff, in which he asked them to “hide” an apple in his room before he checked in.

“It may seem strange, but can you please hide an apple somewhere in my room for me to find?” Tommy wrote in the message. “I travel often, and these small games help take my mind off work and lower my stress levels.”

The hotel went above and beyond in its response. As Tommy went on to reveal, they actually decided to hide five apples throughout his hotel room.

The video proceeds to show Tommy reading a handwritten letter from the hotel staff. Then, he sets out to search his room for the hidden apples.

According to Tommy’s clip, the incident actually took place in 2019. Based on the emails shared in his clip, he appeared to have been staying at the Novotel Melbourne on Collins, located in Melbourne, Australia.

Tommy waited until now to share the story, though. His video was met with plenty of excitement — and lots of praise for the hotel staff.

“They deserve a raise!” one user wrote.

“That’s good customer service,” another added.

“They really went above and beyond for this one,” another wrote.
