Tilbury teen drowns in Lake St. Clair, police say

A 16-year-old drowned in Lakeshore Wednesday afternoon, Essex County OPP say.

In a media release, police say offers responded to a report of a person in distress in Lake St. Clair in Lakeshore.

"Emergency responders arrived on scene and located an unresponsive individual in the water," police said.

The person was taken to hospital but "[despite] the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, a 16-year-old of Tilbury was pronounced deceased at the hospital."

Police say the incident remains under investigation and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Essex County OPP.
