Can Tim Cook act? Judge for yourself by watching Apple's surprise skit during its big iPhone event

You might be surprised to learn there was a Jeff Bezos cameo in "Star Trek Beyond." You probably missed it— his face was hidden behind an alien mask, after all.

Not to be outdone, Apple CEO Tim Cook acted opposite Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, sans mask, in a surprise skit during Apple's big iPhone event on Tuesday.

Apple held its fall event, Wonderlust, on Tuesday, where it unveiled new products including the iPhone 15 and new Apple Watches. This year's event, however, featured a rare skit on Apple's sustainability initiatives, starring Cook and Spencer, who also stars in the Apple TV drama series "Truth Be Told."

During the four and half minute skit — which was set in a corporate meeting — Cook (who played himself) and a group of Apple employees shared updates on the company's progress toward its environmental goals with Spencer, who played the role of "Mother Nature."

The skit starts out with Cook going over lines quietly to himself in anticipation of a mysterious meeting, which turns out to be with "Mother Nature" herself.

Once she arrives — with some spooky weather hinting at her approach — other Apple mployees then shared various updates that Apple has made towards achieving carbon neutrality, noting that the company has been shipping more products by ocean instead of air, eliminating all plastic from its packaging, and investing in projects across the world to protect the Earth's soil, plants, and trees.

Apple has committed to becoming carbon neutral across its supply chain and products by 2030, and on Tuesday, the company announced that more than 300 of its manufacturers have also committed to that goal. Apple also said that since 2015 it has cut down emissions by more than 45% .

"As you can see, we've innovated and retooled almost every part of our process to reduce our impact on the planet," Cook said. "By 2030 all Apple devices will have a net zero climate."

When Spencer asked skeptically, "All of them?" Cook reassured her, repeating, "all of them."

An intense stare-down ensues.

People react online to Tim Cook's acting chops

While the skit was an obvious plug for Apple's commitment to corporate social responsibility, the bigger question viewers seem to be wondering is: Can Tim Cook act?

And many people have already taken to social media to rave about Cook's acting abilities.

One person tweeted "Apple's climate progress is impressive - but the most impressive part of that skit is 100% Tim Cook's acting. Best he's ever done by far! 🤣"

While another wrote "Oddly enough one of the most impressive parts about the #AppleEvent  so far is Tim Cook's acting. Bro really went 💯"

Others speculated about how much time Cook spent taking classes before his debut.

"I wonder how many hours of acting classes Tim Cook took for this #AppleEvent," one person wrote.

Apple did not immediately respond to Insider's request for a comment.
