Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters 'Haven't Even Figured Out What Continent' They'll Marry On

Planning a wedding is hard work, especially when the future bride and groom are thousands of miles apart.

Just ask Tim Tebow and fiancé Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. More than two months after the former NFL quarterback proposed, the couple is still trying to figure out what their wedding will look like — and even more fundamentally, where they will exchange their vows.

“We haven’t even figured out what continent we’re getting married on,” Tebow, 31, tells PEOPLE. “Sometimes, having a lot of choices isn’t necessarily a good thing.”

On the day they got engaged, Tebow told PEOPLE that they were considering a destination wedding, but he hadn’t yet determined where it would be.

PEOPLE caught up with Tebow and Nel-Peters, 23, at the Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Gala and Golf Classic in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, on Friday. When asked about the wedding planning, Tebow deferred to Nel-Peters. “That’s really her area of expertise,” he said.

As it turns out, there’s still a lot to be done. Shortly after the proposal, Nel-Peters went back to South Africa for a month. “I got to spend time with my family and see my friends,” she says. “It was a really great time.”

With Nel-Peters away, Tebow continued his baseball training, and also worked on his new TV show, Million Dollar Mile. “I really missed her while we were apart,” he says. “But we’re both super busy, which really helped.”

Something else that helped: FaceTime. The couple would talk about the wedding plans regularly — and send each other ideas via video. “It was really the best way for us to communicate,” says Tebow. “We’re starting to figure everything out, but we have a lot to do.”

The following day, while walking along the golf course with PEOPLE, Tebow said that he’s enjoying bringing Nel-Peters into his world — especially his charity work. “We met because of Night To Shine,” he says, referring to the annual prom that his foundation organizes for people with special needs. “So it’s great for her to experience the things that are important to me.”

“Honestly, she’s such a special person,” he continues. “I’ll be really blessed to have her in the rest of my life.”
