The ice fishing season is coming to a close in southern Manitoba.
Unsafe ice has prompted the province to ask anglers to remove their shacks from the Red River as soon as possible. The deadline to remove the shacks remains Sunday, March 12.
While many fishing huts have already been removed from the river, the province said many remain on the waterway near Lockport, Man.
All other ice fishing shacks in southern Manitoba must be removed from the ice March 31, while fishing huts in northern Manitoba have to be removed by April 15.
Ice conditions can become dangerous even before removal deadlines, the province warned. Sustainable development suggests anglers always check conditions before they step out onto the ice.
