You deserve a break. Whether it’s for the end-of-year holidays, to spend some time on a boat or you want a few days to yourself on a road trip or staycation, you've earned some time off.
Before you go, don’t forget to let your coworkers or clients know you won’t be responding to their emails or messages! Many companies use an internal messaging system like Teams or Slack, so that’s a useful place to start when setting an out of office message.

What does OOO mean at work?
OOO stands for “out of office.” This terminology can be used if you’re on leave, taking a day off, traveling or stepping out temporarily. OOO messages are automatic replies that will let people know you won’t be replying or will be delayed in responding.
How to set out of office in Outlook, Teams
If you’re using software from the Microsoft suite of tools, one of the easiest ways to set your OOO is on Teams.
Click on your profile picture in the upper right-hand corner of the app.
Click Set status message.
Click Set out of office message.
Toggle on the setting.
Put in your custom out-of-office message.
Click Save.
You can also set the message to send during a specific time frame or create a separate message to send to people not part of your company.
If you use Teams and Outlook, your status will also sync from the messaging platform to your email, but you can also set it in the Outlook app.
Click Tools on your menu bar.
Click Automatic Replies…
Some of the steps might vary depending on which version of the software you're using and if you're accessing the service via a browser instead of the apps. If so, visit their website for more specific details.
How to set out of office in Gmail
To set an OOO in Gmail:
Click the settings gear.
Click See all settings.
Scroll down until you find Vacation responder.
Turn the setting on and fill out the message box.
How to set out of office in Slack
To set up your out-of-office message in Slack:
Click on your profile picture.
Click Update your status.
Select Out of office.
Fill out the date range and add a message.
