Tips from public lead to impaired charges against prohibited driver

Police defend human trafficking sting operation

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary laid several charges against a 43-year-old man Saturday, including driving while impaired.

Police had received several calls from the public about a vehicle being driven recklessly in St. John's by a person who was possibly drunk behind the wheel.

At 5:20 p.m., RNC officers stopped the driver on Thorburn Road and charged him with impaired driving, refusing the breathalyzer and driving while prohibited.

He was held in police custody awaiting a court appearance.

The matter remains under investigation.
