Tito Jackson's 3 Kids: All About TJ, Taryll and Taj
Tito Jackson was a father to three sons before his death on Sept. 15, 2024
Tito Jackson inspired his three sons — Taj, Taryll and TJ — to pursue careers in music like him and his siblings.
The original The Jackson 5 member died on Sept. 15, 2024, after suffering a heart attack. He was 70 years old. His sons confirmed his death in a post on Instagram from their band, 3T's, account, writing that they were "shocked, saddened and heartbroken."
"Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being," they wrote alongside throwback photos of themselves with Tito. "Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as 'Coach Tito' or some know him as 'Poppa T.' Nevertheless, he will be missed tremendously."
Tito and his late ex-wife, Delores "Dee Dee" Martes, welcomed their three sons before their divorce in 1988. Taj, 51, was born in 1973, followed by Taryll, 49, two years later in 1975. TJ, 46, rounded out the family in 1978.
The three brothers formed their own band, 3T, and put out their first album, Brotherhood, in 1995. They were mentored by their uncle, Michael Jackson, who also signed them to his label, MJJ Music. The brothers continue to tour and collaborate on music.
In addition to their joint ventures, Taj, Taryll and TJ have embarked on their solo careers and have been raising their families.
From their music careers to their children, here's everything to know about Tito Jackson's three kids.
Tariano Adaryll "Taj" Jackson II, 51
Tito and Martes welcomed their first son, Taj, on Aug. 4, 1973, in Los Angeles. He went on to follow in his father's footsteps with a career in music, forming 3T alongside his two younger brothers.
Before founding the band, Taj graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in television production and recording arts, and a minor in music. He used his television knowledge to work on directing music videos and docuseries while also performing as a member of 3T.
In 2015, Taj teamed up with Taryll and TJ to executive produce and star in the Lifetime reality series The Jacksons: Next Generation. The show focused on the brothers' personal and professional lives, including Taj's marriage to Thayana Sco Jackson on June 16, 2013. Together, the two share three daughters: Taylor, Toria and Tylee.
Taj has also spoken extensively about his close relationship with his uncle, Michael. The late pop star mentored him and his brothers and even collaborated on a song, "Why," on the band's first album.
"He was absolutely a creative genius. Every time I worked on something with him, it never ever felt like work," Taj shared in a 2022 Q&A on the Michael Jackson Community blog.
In addition to his extended family, Taj was also close to Tito, celebrating him on Instagram on Father's Day 2024 with a sweet throwback photo of the two.
"Your strength, experience, and love have shaped me into the man I am today," he wrote in a sweet tribute in the caption. "Every day, I am grateful for the countless lessons you’ve taught me, the endless support you’ve shown me, and the unwavering belief you’ve always had in me. You are not just my dad, but my role model and hero."
Taryll Adren Jackson, 49
Taryll was born on Aug. 8, 1975. Like his brothers, he was part of 3T and starred on their reality show in 2015. Now, he also creates solo music, including the single "All My Love," which was released two days before his father died.
Leading up to his death, Tito was performing with his brothers Jackie and Marlon as The Jacksons, and Taryll had occasionally joined them on the road. In August 2023, Taryll opened up in the press room after a show in France about what he was continuing to learn from his father and uncles while on tour with them.
"Uncle Jackie will see that I'm doing a move a certain way and he'll teach me to make it better," he said. "To me, that's why they are who they are — they're always trying to give to the fans. They're my role models since I was very little, and I was over there in the back watching them and how professional they are."
Taryll also has two sons of his own, whom he shares with his long-term partner Breana Cabral. The two first welcomed son Bryce in February 2008, followed by Adren in February 2011.
Tito Joe "TJ" Jackson, 46
The youngest of Tito's kids, TJ was born on July 16, 1978. According to TJ, his father maintained a balance between his high-profile career and raising his sons while they were growing up.
"My father, at the prime of his career, had his boys and coaching," TJ shared on WGN News in December 2019. "One night it was Dodgers stadium watching him perform, the next night it was a Little League game, and that was just my father."
In 2009, the brothers suffered a tragedy when their uncle Michael died. TJ was named the legal guardian of Michael's three children — Prince, Paris and Bigi — in addition to being the father of his own four children.
TJ has been vocal about putting his career on hold to help raise his cousins and his children. In 2020, he debuted his solo career with the release of his E.P. Obsession. He followed the project with his first solo album in 2022, Acoustic Sessions 1, which included a cover of "Human Nature" in honor of Michael.
