Yahoo Finance is tracking American Airlines, Barnes & Noble, Berkshire Hathaway, Staples and Tesla in intraday trading on Thursday.
American Airlines (AA) – Qatar Airways is interested in buying a 10% stake in American Airlines. In a regulatory filing, American Airlines said it received an unsolicited notice from the company that it intends to purchase $808 million in the US airline and plans to respond “in due course” with the filings needed under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Act.
Barnes & Noble (BKS) – The company reported a smaller-than-expected loss for its fiscal fourth quarter and revenue topped Wall Street expectations. Barnes & Noble reported a loss of 19 cents a share on revenue of $821.2 million. Shares have fallen about 42% since the start of the year.
Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A) – The company run by billionaire investor Warren Buffett is investing $1.5 billion into Canadian lender Home Capital Group. In a statement, Buffett said, “Home Capital’s strong assets, its ability to originate and underwrite well-performing mortgages, and its leading position in a growing market sector make this a very attractive investment.”
Staples (SPLS) – Shares are gaining following a Reuters report that private equity firm Sycamore Partners is in advanced talks to buy the office supply retailer. The deal could potentially be worth more than $6 billion dollars.
Tesla (TSLA) – The electric carmaker has confirmed that it’s in talks with China about production opportunities in Shanghai. Tesla shares have soared about 75% so far this year.
