Toddler with devastating diagnosis surprised with superhero party

Leeanne and Patrick Wilson are trying to make their last memories with their son count.

On Monday, King's Castle Design and Events arranged a play date for three-year-old Tanner with a group of superheroes and Disney princesses.

The Lawson Civic Centre and Desiree Martin Photography also helped with the event.

"You could tell by his reaction that he was just in awe of them coming out to play," Patrick said.

The toddler was diagnosed with Leigh syndrome a few weeks ago. It's a rare disorder that is breaking down his central nervous system.

"As a parent you never think that this can ever happen to you, but it has and we're just devastated," Patrick said.

Tanner had always been a healthy boy, but when he was two, his health started going downhill. The toddler began losing his balance and his speech began regressing.

"We're trying to go day-by-day now and make lasting memories with Tanner and make him as happy as he can be," Patrick added.

Leeanne said the response from the community since Tanner's diagnosis has been overwhelming.

"I've had a lot of photographers and some foundations approach me and it's really just — this has been nice," she noted.

She said next month the family will embark on a Disney Fantasy Cruise, a wish Tanner had made that the Children's Wish Foundation helped grant.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to offer financial support to the Wilsons. It has already reached over $13,000 of its $10,000 goal.
