Tommy Lasorda celebrated Dodgers division title on his 90th birthday

The Los Angeles Dodgers gave Tommy Lasorda the ultimate birthday present on Friday.

The festive evening which began with the team celebrating the legendary manager’s 90th birthday, ended with the Dodgers celebrating their fifth consecutive NL West championship.

And the best part of it all? Lasorda stuck around for both parties.

The Baseball Hall of Famer was honored on the field in a special pre-game ceremony.

Then, after the Dodgers wrapped up a 4-2 win against the San Francisco Giants, Lasorda put on some goggles and took in the clubhouse celebration.

Lasorda would be the first to tell you that winning never gets old. That’s something the Dodgers did a whole lot of under his watch, racking up 1,599 wins over his 21 seasons in the dugout. His stint included eight division titles, four NL pennants and two World Series championships.

One thing he never did though was win division titles in each of his first two seasons as manager. That distinction belongs to Dave Roberts, who made sure to pull Lasorda aside so they could celebrate together.

While it’s safe to assume Lasorda didn’t join Yasiel Puig for any dancing, we’d like to think his presence helped the players keep their eyes on the prize. After all, the last Dodgers celebration that really mattered happened in 1988, when Lasorda won his second and final World Series championship.

That’s the party Lasorda was undoubtedly thinking about while the champagne was being sprayed on Friday night. And that’s the party the current Dodgers should be envisioning throwing five weeks from now.
