Tony Romo's 3 Kids: All About Hawkins, Rivers and Jones
The NFL commentator shares three sons with his wife Candice Crawford Romo
Since retiring from the Dallas Cowboys in 2017, Tony Romo has kept busy with his dual role as an NFL commentator and dad to sons Hawkins, Rivers and Jones.
Tony and his wife, Candice Crawford Romo, first started dating in 2009 and got married in 2011 in Dallas. As a sports journalist herself, Candice fit well into Tony's life as a star quarterback. And now that he's spending more time commentating, Tony will return to call his third Super Bowl in a row when the Kansas City Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Feb. 11, in Las Vegas.
"If you get a great wife who understands the demands of someone in athletics, I think that's important," he told PEOPLE in 2012. "I was lucky enough to find someone like that.
Now, the pair are parents to three young boys, and Tony shared that having children "strengthened" their family values and love for each other. As for Candice, she's thrived in her role as a mom to three sons.
"I love being a 'boy mom' … The best part about being a boy mom is that they keep me active! Whether it's sword fighting or playing basketball, we are constantly on the go," she told PEOPLE in June 2017.
Here is everything to know about Tony Romo's three kids.
Hawkins, 11
Hawkins Crawford Romo was born on April 9, 2012, weighing 8 lbs. and 8 oz. at birth. When Hawkins — nicknamed Hawk by his family — arrived, Romo's team the Dallas Cowboys shared a heartwarming statement with fans: "Hawkins Crawford Romo is now a part of the Dallas Cowboys family."
As the first child of the Crawford-Romo family, Hawkins' birth had a big impact on his parents. "If it's possible to bring you and your wife closer together, something like this really does," Tony told PEOPLE. "It's been a great blessing from God to put us in this situation. We feel very honored."
Hawkins' uncle, actor Chace Crawford, also shared some words shortly after his birth. "I am the best uncle," Chace told PEOPLE about the birth of his sister's son. "I'm like Christmas vacation. I'm the best."
Hawkins has remained close with his uncle as evidenced by a video shared on Instagram by his dad in March 2017. "Hawk had just gotten back from a trip with his uncle Chace. He really wanted to tell me why he loved uncle chace more than his father," Tony hilariously captioned the post.
Over the years, Hawkins has also made appearances on his parent's social media accounts, whether he's spending time with his younger siblings or showing off his dance moves.
"Dancing into a short week," Tony captioned an Instagram video in February 2019, featuring Hawkins grooving along with his younger brothers.
Rivers, 8
Rivers Romo was born on March 18, 2014, weighing 8 lbs., 12 oz.
Thanks to his famous father, Rivers is a football fan, watching NFL games both when his dad was playing for the Dallas Cowboys and later when he became an analyst. That said, he's done more than cheer Tony on from the living room couch.
Apart from visiting his father at training camp, Rivers has also joined the former quarterback behind the scenes as an NFL commentator for CBS. In November 2017, Candice shared photos on her Instagram Story of the entire Romo family in the commentary booth at a game. Rivers wore his Dallas Cowboys No. 9 jersey with pride and was "already a natural" at pointing out particular plays.
While he was the younger son in the family for a few years, Rivers later embraced his role as an older brother to Jones. Candice shared a glimpse into their lives with PEOPLE as Hawkins and Rivers got ready to welcome a new brother while she was pregnant.
"The older boys are so excited," she said in June 2017. "They were even more thrilled to find out they were getting a little brother. It's been really sweet to experience this pregnancy with them."
Candice added: "They are very interested in the week-by-week baby calendar and how big the baby is getting. We bought a little handheld baby monitor, and they love listening to the baby's heartbeat."
Jones, 5
Jones McCoy Romo was born on Aug. 23, 2017.
Tony announced his birth on X (formerly known as Twitter), with an adorable photo of the newborn. "Welcomed our third boy Jones McCoy Romo into the world today!" he captioned it. "Ten fingers and ten toes. All healthy. Almost have my basketball team built."
The father of three later shared with PEOPLE that it was "super exciting" to welcome Jones into their family and he was now part of a growing squad. "My third boy, you know, so building my own basketball team here — getting close,” Tony said in August 2017.
Jones joining the family meant that Candice was a complete boy mom. When asked what the best part of the journey was, she shared with PEOPLE that although she enjoyed being on the go with them, she also cherished the slow moments.
"My favorite time of day is bedtime when we slow down and read stories, snuggle and talk," she said in June 2017. "So much is going on in their little minds, and I love getting glimpses of them when the day winds down."
As the youngest of the family, Jones is often showered with love from his older brothers. Tony and Candice have shared several adorable snaps over the years showcasing their sibling bond, from Halloween trick-or-treating outings to cozy days at home.
"Hawk just knows how to get Jones going," Tony wrote on Instagram in September 2018, alongside a clip of Hawk making Jones giggle.
