Though beauty is starting to address the skin concerns of highly melanated people, there’s still more work to be done. Topicals, a WOC-owned beauty brand, is taking the leap into addressing skin conditions for all skin tones.

Beauty and skincare lovers can expect to swipe the brand’s hero products. There’s the Topicals Like Butter Eczema Hydrating Mask and the Faded Brightening & Clearing Gel. These are the only two products in the Topicals skincare line. However, they’re both targeted solutions by two 20-somethings who are also women of color.

According to a press release from the brand, founders Olamide Olowe and Claudia Teng designed the skincare brand out of a lack of skincare available to those with common skin conditions. One in four Americans have a skin condition or disease and dermatologist visits aren’t cheap. Now, the young CEOs are setting out to address common skin conditions like eczema, hyperpigmentation, psoriasis and more with these first two products.

The Like Butter formula is soothing and hydrating for those with eczema-prone skin. With anti-inflammatory ingredients, you can expect additions like Camellia Sinensis leaf, turmeric and ginseng root. Plus, there’s also colloidal oatmeal, which helps to soothe potential skin irritation.

The Faded Brightening Gel has some super popular ingredients. Not to mention, the formula combats hyperpigmentation and dark spots as well as scarring and sun damage. Ingredients you can expect to find in this treatment include tranexamic acid, which helps prevent the overproduction of melanin in the skin. Plus, there’s also licorice root in the gel, which is rich in antioxidants, and niacinamide which helps tackle free radicals.

“Having lived with a serious skin condition myself, I found there were limited treatment options available, and none of the brands looked like me,” Olowe, Topicals CEO and co-founder said in the press release. “I could use an over-the-counter product that didn’t address my specific needs as a Black woman with darker skin, or spend thousands on pricey prescriptions.”

The line is under $40 and the products act as staples in some beauty lovers’ routine. However, ingredients like these, the Topicals addresses several skin conditions for all skin tones.
