Tories keep youth member despite racist comments

Manitoba Tories will not revoke the membership of former youth-leader Braydon Mazurkiewich, who sparked controversy for derogatory comments he made about aboriginals.

Mazurkiewich previously lead the youth wing of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba. In Dec. 2013, he admitted to posting racially-motivated statements about aboriginals and a potential urban reserve on Facebook.

Mazurkiewich apologized for the comments and resigned but maintained he had strong feelings about aboriginals and the possibility of an urban reserve in Winnipeg.

A board of directors for the PC party formally accepted his resignation Thursday but stopped short of revoking Mazurkiewich’s membership.

Party president Ryan Matthews said Mazurkiewich no longer holds a voice within the party.
