Environment Canada says it is tracking a severe thunderstorm that could produce a tornado affecting several communities in eastern Alberta.

The warning, issued at approximately 5:15 p.m. MST, noted that damaging winds, large hail, and locally intense rainfall are also a possibility.

The warning applies to Special Area no. 4 near Veteran, Consort, Kirriemuir and Compeer.

Environment Canada is advising residents to take cover if threatening weather approaches or if they see a funnel cloud or swirling debris.

The agency recommends going indoors and staying on the lowest floor, away from outside walls or windows.
