Toronto daystarter: Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Here's some information to start the day as you head out this Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015.

Weather

It's mid-September but Toronto will enjoy summer-like conditions today, with a high of 28 C under sunny skies. Temperatures will fall to the low 20s over the weekend so enjoy this while you can.

Traffic

As of 6 a.m., there are no major problems to report on GTA roads, the TTC and GO Transit. One note, the Union Station GO bus terminal is operating normally after yesterday's accident, in which a bus rolled onto a passenger platform and became wedged underneath an overhang. No one was hurt.

News

Toronto Mayor John Tory will not be supporting an Olympic bid for the 2024 Summer Games, the CBC has learned. Tory will make his announcement at a 9:30 a.m. news conference from Nathan Phillips Square that CBC.ca will stream live. We will also have reaction to the decision throughout the day.

In other news, the provincial government, school boards and the union representing Ontario's elementary teachers appear to be at an impasse in labour talks. Yesterday the elementary teachers federation rejected the province's latest offer. Meanwhile, the province says it's the same deal tentatively agreed to by high school teachers last month and suggested there is no room left to budge. The union is also threatening to escalate work-to-rule actions in schools.

Sports

After winning three of four games in a crucial weekend series against the Yankees in New York, the American East leading Toronto Blue Jays return to action tonight against the Braves in Atlanta. The Yankees won last night, so Toronto enters the three-game series with a three-game division lead.
